Update from the Niagara On the Lake Chamber of Commerce
Jul. 21, 2020
Eduardo Lafforgue, president and CEO of NOTLs Chamber of Commerce, has been meeting with the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, government officials at all levels and representatives from other cities and countries to piece together a recovery plan for town stakeholders. The Chamber has widened its email listing beyond its members to share a newsletter three times a week with businesses in town that includes information and resources from the provincial and federal governments that can help and prepare for reopening. They’ve also provided an operational plan for recovery and a nine-step process to reopening. Lafforgue said it’s important to keep the town's brand equity and not destroy the image, but still comply with regulations put in by governments and public health. “Right now, small groups are going to be permitted: 10 people, then 20 people and then 50 people,” said Lafforgue. “Then 50 to 500, it will take a while. Big events, cultural events, it will take a while before they come back. We will try to adapt and manage that.” “The short-term goal is to survive,” he added, in his May 28,2020 interview with the Niagara On the Lake Advance. We look forward to his update at our July 21st ZOOM meeting.

Founder of Smooth Move for Seniors and New Member
Aug. 11, 2020
Laurie Gunton is the founder of Smooth Move for Seniors. In addition to having three boys, volunteering in the community, and a professional with years of experience in the corporate world, she decided to add entrepreneur to the list!
Laurie created SMFS because she saw that there was a huge need for that extra pair of helping hands, when the decision has been made to move. The elderly, mentally/physically challenged or ill find it extremely challenging. We all do even under the most normal circumstances! The challenge of knowing they have to cut their contents to under half, can be too much for them. They don’t know where to begin. How to sort, donate, sell, pack are all steps necessary to get the project going and that’s what I will talk about.
Laurie is backed with over 25 years of work experience, mainly in the print background (Sales, Customer Service and Team Leader), BA in Sociology from York University. She has also met eligibility, education and exam requirements to become a Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist. This certification also requires her to take ongoing seniors courses.
Laurie brings a positive, enthusiastic and compassionate attitude to her work. In her presentation she’ll talk about decluttering, sorting, packing/unpacking, selling and donating. How you can get started now too! |
