Bring your bike and join the ride! In support of World Polio Day, we are looking for a team to ride and walk with us, Rotary Club of Niagara-on-the-Lake, in the upcoming Participate for Polio district-wide Rotary event. All proceeds from the event will benefit End Polio Now to support our continuing efforts to eradicate polio…forever.

 

Participants will gather at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Davids Lions Club, 1462 York Road, St. Davids, before cycling to Niagara-on-the-Lake. After our return, we will convene for food, beverages, and fellowship at The Old Firehall Restaurant, just a short distance away at 268 Four Mile Creek Road.


Our fundraising goal is $5,000 CAD from the Ontario side of our District. Due to global efforts led by Rotary, polio cases have dropped by 99.9%. Although we are closer than ever, significant challenges remain. Every $1 you give becomes $3 thanks to the 2:1 match from the Gates Foundation so let's #EndPolioNow.

At the World Health Summit in October of 2022, Global leaders committed $2.6 billion USD to end polio. Rotary has committed to contribute $150M USD to that end. The goal is to: Permanently interrupt all poliovirus transmission in Pakistan and Afghanistan, stop transmission of CVDPV and prevent outbreaks in non-endemic countries by 2023; and certify the world free from polio (meaning no cases have been detected for three years) by 2026.

'End Polio Now!' has been Rotary International’s longest running (since 1979) and by far the most significant initiative in the history of the organization.
