Update from the Niagara On the Lake Chamber of Commerce

Eduardo Lafforgue, president and CEO of NOTLs Chamber of Commerce, has been meeting with the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, government officials at all levels and representatives from other cities and countries to piece together a recovery plan for town stakeholders.

The Chamber has widened its email listing beyond its members to share a newsletter three times a week with businesses in town that includes information and resources from the provincial and federal governments that can help and prepare for reopening. They’ve also provided an operational plan for recovery and a nine-step process to reopening.

Lafforgue said it’s important to keep the town's brand equity and not destroy the image, but still comply with regulations put in by governments and public health.

“Right now, small groups are going to be permitted: 10 people, then 20 people and then 50 people,” said Lafforgue. “Then 50 to 500, it will take a while. Big events, cultural events, it will take a while before they come back. We will try to adapt and manage that.”

“The short-term goal is to survive,” he added, in his May 28,2020 interview with the Niagara On the Lake Advance.

We look forward to his update at our July 21st ZOOM meeting.
