WHAT'S GOING ON IN ROTARY AND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - October 1, 2024

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
We had a GREAT September.  If you are not making it to our weekly lunches, you are missing some terrific speakers, as well as fun and fellowship (and treats from Brian and Jan).  Please keep an eye out for upcoming speakers (see Cindy’s list) and TAG your TUESDAYS to make a point of joining your fellow Rotarians.

Our Committees are in full swing.  We have money to spend in support of worthy causes – both local and international – if you are not active on a committee, we have active committees that would welcome your participation.

Many Rotarians supported the Red Roof car rally – yours truly joined with John Boot, Betty and Fran to emerge victorious (you can easily guess who were the “driving” forces!)

Other Rotarians joined Martin Quick in raising funds to END Polio – we will have more opportunity to do so on October 29th.

Cindy Grant led the Newark Neighbours food drive – you can still drop off supplies directly to Newark Neighbours.

The Fashion Show is coming up on Oct. 15th – get your tickets for NOTL’s top fall event!  Thanks to Nancy Bailey for all her efforts.

On Oct. 27th we have Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner – the hosts are set, so be sure to join as guests – who knows where you’ll end up!!

The best way to benefit from Rotary is to join in – fun, fellowship, and service is what we are all about – let’s have a GREAT October!

Jamie

NEWARK NEIGHBOURS PORCH PICKUP

The Newark Neighbours Food Bank team expresses our deep appreciation for our members participation in the Porch Pick-up Food Drive last Saturday Sept 28. While the turn-out was lower than previous food drives, the donations we received were very generous.  We are well stocked and ready to prepare over 120 Thanksgiving holiday baskets for our clients. Thanks also to the teams from St. David’s Lions Club and Niagara-on-the-Lake Kinsmen Club.  And finally, Emil Maack, our exchange student, was a key part of our Saturday team. Thank you all. A true demonstration of community spirit and service above self.

Tree Planting Event
Last year the Holiday House Tour partnered with Land Care Niagara as part of the HHT's ongoing efforts to 'green' the event.

A contribution for every ticket sold funded the purchase of trees to support their reforestation efforts.

On the morning of Oct 19, in coordination with the Niagara Parkway Commission, we will be planting the trees in Paradise Grove.  The exact time and location will be finalized once we hear from the Parks Commission.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Bill French.  Thank you.
