Tara is a mother, an actress (best known locally for her huge body of work for the Shaw Festival), an aspiring pianist, an avid cyclist, & the sole proprietor of ‘little green shop’. Originally from the west coast, she has now resided in Ontario for most of her life, & settled in Niagara upon the birth of her daughter, Eliana, 11 years ago.

Founder of Smooth Move for Seniors and New Member
Aug. 11, 2020
Laurie Gunton is the founder of Smooth Move for Seniors. In addition to having three boys, volunteering in the community, and a professional with years of experience in the corporate world, she decided to add entrepreneur to the list!
Laurie created SMFS because she saw that there was a huge need for that extra pair of helping hands, when the decision has been made to move. The elderly, mentally/physically challenged or ill find it extremely challenging. We all do even under the most normal circumstances! The challenge of knowing they have to cut their contents to under half, can be too much for them. They don’t know where to begin. How to sort, donate, sell, pack are all steps necessary to get the project going and that’s what I will talk about.
Laurie is backed with over 25 years of work experience, mainly in the print background (Sales, Customer Service and Team Leader), BA in Sociology from York University. She has also met eligibility, education and exam requirements to become a Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist. This certification also requires her to take ongoing seniors courses.
Laurie brings a positive, enthusiastic and compassionate attitude to her work. In her presentation she’ll talk about decluttering, sorting, packing/unpacking, selling and donating. How you can get started now too! |

Toastmasters-Rotary Alliance
Oct. 13, 2020
Toastmasters International and Rotary International. Two organizations with a long history, global impact, and proven track record of helping people. And now they have something else in common: They are teaming up to strengthen their members’ skills and broaden their opportunities. The Toastmasters-Rotary alliance, announced in January, will leverage the strengths of both organizations to help members grow personally and professionally. Later this year, Toastmasters will begin delivering eight educational courses tailored to members of Rotary and Rotaract (a Rotary-sponsored organization for 18-to-30-year-olds). The phased rollout of the eight courses will help Rotarians develop and hone their leadership and communication skills. Toastmasters members, in turn, can benefit from connecting with Rotarians—1.2 million members in nearly every country in the world—and learning from the organization’s model of humanitarian service. Members can use their communication skills to impact their communities |

Helping NOTL's migrant workers one bike at a time.
Dec. 01, 2020 12:00 p.m.
Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Bikes For Farmworkers has been busy repairing used bicycles and providing tune-ups for migrant workers since 2015.Migrant workers have been coming to the region since the 1960's and in some cases the same workers have come back for decades. Migrant workers have a large impact in the area because of the types of agriculture they support, such as nurseries, greenhouses, orchards and vineyardsWith a crew of volunteers, Bikes For Farmworkers, have turned the basement of the old Virgil Public School into an assembly line that would make Henry Ford jealous. Downstairs, they set up a number of repair stations completed with a stand, mat and a variety of tools purchased with the help of a grant.Their primary mission is to provide road safe bikes to migrant workers. Bikes don’t go out the door until they’ve passed a 50-point checklist the volunteers have created, plus a reflector to ensure the cyclists are visible as they navigate the country roads of rural Niagara. Bikes that can’t be repaired are stripped for their parts. The group has developed a handbook for those looking to start a similar organization. They are also willing to provide training and other support to help them get off the ground. They’re always looking for bike donations, as well. Anyone with a used or repairable bicycle can call Weiner, at 905-321-8638, or Gaudet, at 289-783-1684, to arrange for a pickup or drop-off during workshop hours. |

Club Visioning
Jan. 26, 2021 12:00 p.m.
This week, please welcome your Rotary District 7090 Governor Elect, Anne Birmingham to our noon meeting. Along with Anne’s many other Rotary duties, she is an active member of the Club "Visioning to Action" committee.
More than a century ago, Rotary pioneered a new model of service leadership grounded in person-to-person connections. Today, those connections are a network that spans the globe—bridging cultural, linguistic, generational, and geographic barriers—and shares the vision of a better world.
As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
This is Rotary’s Action Plan through 2024: to increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participant engagement, and increase our ability to adapt.
Join Anne as she mentors us, The Rotary Cub of Niagara On the Lake, through the benefits of Club Visioning.
